Airbox versus Pods on 1979 Invader
« on: February 11, 2018, 06:57:47 AM »
Morning all,

I have read that use of airbox is suggested on 440 due to EconoJet Carbs.

What are thoughts/suggestions of running pods rather than Airbox on 340?

Sled is to oval ice race. Not much powder as long as sled leads pack.

I'm reading in my Assembly and Preparation manual and it says "never run the engine with the air silencer removed from the carburetor. Poor engine performance and engine damage will result". It goes on to say "properly position the plastic adapters on the carburetor prior to air silencer installation, to prevent breakage of the plastic econo jet fitting". It makes no mention of using other types of filters, but that doesn't mean it can't be done, I'm just not certain. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will chime in. Good luck!

The factory econojet carbs require factory air box for vacuum for carbs to work properly.  Sled wont run correctly without air box. That's why manual says. Could always put regular standard mikuni's on it and would not need air box ;)

I think you are right on the 340.  without econojet, you are good to run pods.  I do on all my kawi's without econojets.   Make sure you get good air flow under hood so you are not sucking hot air into engine.
