Invader - 4/6 copper head gaskets
« on: May 15, 2021, 07:45:42 PM »
Anyone tried these??  Seems like the John Deere head gaskets had a copper ring but I do not know about the entire gasket being copper.  Seems like you would need some kind of sealer to make it work?

Hi , I can’t see why they won’t work . I used to use full copper head gaskets on my small block Chevy on my drag car and they never leaked I didn’t have any sealer , they were soft enough they compressed and sealed.
Just my 2 cents . Thanks ArcticInvader

I saw these a while back and cringed.  Seems like a bad idea, but who knows maybe it'll work???  Me, I'll stick with my NOS 4/6 gaskets.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

If I remember correctly the 4/6 style gaskets are Deere?

No, but they are similar.  The deere gaskets were a 2 piece design with a copper fire ring that was not quite as wide as the 4/6, and the deere used a composite gasket for the coolant passages that was coated in a white colored rubbery material where the 4/6 gasket was make of solid rubber.

I tried the deere gaskets, they seem to work better than the Invader gaskets.  Nothing works as well as the 4/6 gaskets.  Plus they are reusable!

I have collected some over the years, I don't think I have any extra though.  I supplied NOS samples to Tory Rau, he is working on having them reproduced.  If you need some immediately, you can sometimes find NOS on eBay.

All of the ones that we have found have been used.  They have worked well even the second, or third, time around.

I have torn apart several 4/6 motors and find the original rubber section to be unusable.  However I've been using some of my NOS gaskets over and over again for the last 10 years without issue.  A couple of them have had at least 6 or 7 cycles.
