Invader/intruder interchangeable parts
« on: March 07, 2022, 07:08:24 PM »
Hey there, I have recently purchased a pair of 1979 invaders from a friend who’s grandparents have owned the sleds since new. One is a 340 the other a 440 and the 340 is complete. Back In high school my friend took the secondary clutch, jackshaft and seems to be the brake assembly and swapped it onto the 340 after it’s jackshaft and secondary stripped the splines. I guess the story goes that years ago the 440 was sunk up in a shallow part of the lake but ran afterwards, but they seemed to keep the 340 going more often for some reason. Anyways, I have a line on a jackshaft, clutch and brake from an intruder to make the 440 complete again. Will these parts be the same or will I have to find specific invader parts? Any help would be awesome!

They will be the same between the Invader and Intruder, however, there were some differences between years.  I believe the 78-79 have a different type of bearing on the clutch side of the jackshaft, this bearing has a different ID so the jackshaft is different as well.  The 80-82's have the updated (and better designed) bearing and housing.  They are all interchangeable, but you must use the bearing, bearing housing, and jackshaft together.  You can't mix them.

Sounds like a great couple of sleds!  Good luck!

Depending upon where you are in Ontario, I may be able to help you out with parts.  I am frequently in the northern part of NY.
Intruders:  1978, 1979, 1981 Custom (Pink)
Invaders:   1980 440
Projects:    1981 Invader 440

Hey everybody thank you fo the replies! I found a parts machine at the local sled wreckers that had the parts I needed plus a pretty good track. Now to get the old rusty parts off the donor sled will be the next project!
