1980 kawasaki 4/6
« on: May 14, 2022, 09:12:42 PM »
Very excited finally found a kawasaki 4/6 out in Nebraska with  536 original miles. The sled is absolutely beautiful  with original ltd cover. My question is does any one know how many of these
Were  produced in 1980?

Congratulations!  Sounds like a great find, they were and are great sleds.  I personally don't know the answer to how many were produced, but likely someone here will know.

If you can, please post some photos.

Thank you for the photos.  The sled looks really good.

Do you have a shop manual?  If not send me a PM with your e-mail and I can send you a PDF version.

Nice find,  the guys that run them like them a lot. I have 3 of the 4/6 tunnels and the highest # is 001315.

WOW!  What an excellent example of a 4/6!  Looks like a little touch up paint on the skis & pipes and it will be in mint condition.

How does the 4/6 and the Invader 440 compare. Does one sled dominate over the other or are they a pretty even match?

For power, the 4/6 makes about 10% more horsepower than the stock Invader.  For ride, the LTD was equipped with the Vari-Ride suspension and softer ski springs.

The 81' Invader also has the Vari-Ride skid and larger ski springs (this is why the 81 is my favorite).  The LTD has more power, but it is also heavier with the larger radiator and twin pipes.  And of course the looks...Although subjective, I much prefer the sleeker look of the Invader/Interceptor over the extra hump that the LTD's have (still beautiful sleds).

The 4/6 is definitely faster, but it has it's down sides as well.  Parts can be very hard to find and that motor is prone to cold seizure.  So be sure to thoroughly warm the engine up before riding it...  I believe (if I remember correctly) the 4/6 has an older ignition system with an inferior timing curve.
