1980 Invader LTD 4/6 piston
« on: June 08, 2013, 06:09:13 PM »
What are you using for pistons for the 1980 Invader LTD 4/6? It looks to me like the ring gap of the Invader piston ends up in a transfer port. It does have the 16mm wrist pin so the 81-82 LTD piston won't work. Anybody figured out what aftermarket piston will work?

Use the little search box up and to the left on this page.  Search for 4/6 pistons.  The purpose of a forum like this is you can use what is already posted.  Give it a try and report back with your final answer.

Well, I did the search. Again. If there is a source for 4/6 pistons posted on the forum I missed it. It wouldn't be the first time I couldn't see something right in front of me.

Does anyone know of a source for 1980 4/6 pistons??

Most guys have good luck running standard Invader pistons.

I have checked some of the aftermarket pistons. And on some the pin for the rings is in a good spot on the 4/6 cylinders, and some the ring gap will go over a port.

So my advice would be to get some pistons and try them.

You don't happen to remember which brand of aftermarket piston has the pin in a good location, do you? Kimpex and SPI pistons have the pins in the same places. I don't know about Parts Unlimited or Growth Products pistons. Wiseco says not for LTD. WSM says they don't have any snowmobile parts any more. Who else makes aftermarket pistons for the Invader?
