oil pump removal

  my 80 invader is liquid cooled does the water pump need to be removed to get the oil pump off

No, but I believe that it is easier if you remove both together.

There are two nuts that must be removed to separate the pumps.  One of the nuts is very difficult to access even with the complete unit off of the engine.  Kawasaki probably had a special tool, but I just use my 10mm combination wrench.
