Clutching again
« on: April 06, 2014, 10:12:50 PM »
I had 3 secondary clutches set up today to work with and 1 stock Primary and 1 P-85 primary.
The 3 secondaries I believe had the same springs and then I set them up as Clutch 1: hole A hole 2; clutch 2: hole B hole 2; Clutch 3: hole C
  Clutch 1 :Hole A hole 2
  Clutch 2: hole B hole 2
  Clutch 3: Hole B hole2

It would only hit 30-40MPH; Then I noticed the primary was not coming up on the primary. Primary looks to have a lot of weight on it compared to the others I have for parts. Conclusion to much weight on primaries. I noticed a have 2 clutches one design and 1 clutch different from the other two. The one has two holes drilled on the top where the retaining bolt goes through.  Looking for clutch wear guides and the spilt washer retainer for primary.
What do you guys think?

The primary with the 2 holes is an early one.  It will use different guide shoes but operates the same. If the primary is not opening I think it is froze up or the wrong belt maybe?

78 models used the 2 hole primary with the notches on the other end.....you can use the long wear guides in them....how much weight on what ramps?

Is one primary better than the other? I was thinking about putting a p-85 clutch on it. Looks like I need to machine some more off the back of the P-85 clutch so it doesn't touch the engine mount.

all the k brand clutches were basically the same, just some detail improvements over the years and different ramp/weight combos per model. remember, p85s take a wider belt than kaws

What model sled are you working on?  Is it stock?  Modified?  What are you doing with it?  Trail sled?  Race sled?
