Removing and Installing Crankshaft Gear
« on: November 30, 2012, 12:05:06 PM »
I got the Intruder motor back together and running recently. Just thought I would share what really worked for me to get the oil pump gear off and back on the crankshaft without splitting the case.(I did eventually split the whole case)
I got the small three arm gear puller from Autozone. I ground the back of the arms off just enough to get clearance so the puller would slip between the case and over the gear. The gear came off without any issues.
To put the gear back on, the Kawasaki manual suggests heating the gear on a light bulb. I turned my halogen work light on it's back and set the gear on the glass for about two minutes. The gear slipped right back on the crank and up to the stop with very little effort.
