82 Kawasaki 440 LTD L/C,carb,fuel question
« on: December 24, 2015, 12:52:40 PM »
82 LTD 440 L/C,Keihin Carburetors,Fuel keeps spitting out the carbs, the air box end.Seems to also be flooding the motor, even with the chokes off,I reset the choke cables, seem to be OK,1/16 of movement on cable.I took the bowl off,and set the float to 15mm at a 20 degree angle, book calls for 13mm to 17mm. The bowl gasket is a little old and brittle,so I used a small amount of gas resistant silicone, and kept the silicone out of the holes for the jet and accelerator pump breather hole,I assume that's what they are.Floats are OK,don't sink, needle seems to seat,as I can't suck through the fuel inlet at a angle to close the needle. All passages are clean.I am stumped on this one.Any ideas, bad needle, not setting float correct, bowl gasket cracked and junk, and not seating.Any ideas, any help is deeply appreciated.E-mail

Sounds like your setting are not correct. Spitting back can be a list of things needle and seat has a lot to do with it on your metering also your float can cause problems. If your gaskets are cracked they should be replaced putting silicone on any gasket with carburetor is bad news that stuff can get into ports and make matters worse. Best advise The carburetors back apart cleaned them with carb cleaner buy new gaskets and if the needle and seat are bad replace them follow the book setting you should be fine
