I use a Kimpex 04-269 on my 81 Invader (same rear skid as 81-82 LTD's).  This is a gas shock and is, in my opinion, a noticeably better ride than with a hydraulic shock.  I have used the same shock on my 79' Invader.  So yes, the shock you posted will fit.  There are also cheaper shocks that will fit, but if you can afford the extra few bucks, it's worth it.

I did an extensive search a couple years ago and could not find a replacement.  My only option was to pay for a good used one.

I just rebuilt our 80 LTD skid and used a shock from Dennis Kirk that met the dimensions.  It was part No. 10139SDF

It included the description:  Shock Absorber Polaris S08/173

I don't have the skid here at the house and cannot remember if I had to remove or add a bushing.  I didn't think to write that down.  We were doing an Invader skid and the LTD skid and I remember pressing a bushing on one of them.

Had one made at www.myshockshop.com, sent them my old one, so they could copy it, 110.00 dollars later. This is for 550 now. Works well.
