electric start wiring on 79 Intruder???
« on: March 29, 2016, 09:56:48 PM »
Hey all,
I just picked up a 1979 Intruder with electric start.  The sled runs, but the wiring for the electric start is not hooked up.  Does anyone know how the wiring is supposed to be run for the electric start?  The battery looks like it should be grounded to the frame, but there is another red battery cable that looks like it also could go on the ground post and then is grounded to the motor.  does this sound right?  Lastly, the positive is not hooked up.  It appears that maybe the battery cable goes to a solenoid, that perhaps is connected via an inline fuse to the ignition.  Does any of this sound remotely familiar?  Any idea what size of fuse should be used in the ignition?

The red ground going to the engine is not factory and has been added. Maybe the original cable from battery to chassis or engine to chassis had a bad connection...

The short wire off the solenoid goes to battery positive. The wire with the inline fuse is power from the stator through the regulator/rectifier to charge the battery...10amp fuse.

I left it there for a while so the info could be shared ;). I just wish to not get caught up in any copyright issues so I can't leave it there.  Feel free to PM it if you wish to direct someone there.
