Question about Intruder Fuel Pump.
« on: December 20, 2012, 08:48:32 PM »
Has anyone used a different fuel pump that is new instead of trying to rebuild the stock one? It is appearing that is now the latest issue in getting this thing out in the snow.
It had a different style pump on it compared to stock when I bought it and it was just being held loosely in place with a zip tie. I'm not sure what pump it is because there are not any markings at all on it
I thought I would put an old one off an Invader on it but seems that pump has some issues as it wont fill the lines up completely and the only way to get it to run without bogging under load is to hit the primer a couple of times.
I see some guys are putting Mikuni DF 52-73 on their Liquifires. Would this pump work on an Intruder?

If it has enough flow, it should WORK, but the stock pump has an anti-siphon valve built into it so when the sled is not running, fuel will not siphon from the tank into the carbs if the needle and seat fail (or leak)  one way around this is to add a manual shut off valve so you can shut off the fuel flow between rides. Just don't forget to turn it on before trying to start the sled.
