temp gauge repair?
« on: January 10, 2018, 04:41:40 PM »
My temp gauge doesn't work. I just installed a new sun-pro gauge. My question is? Does anyone repair the old factory gauges? or is there a way to repair them? I'am asking because my factory gauge looks brand new. thanks

I do not know of anyone repairing them but I too wish the wood be.

I have had a few fail in my hands, there is a faint smell of alcohol and then it won't read any more.  While I have not studied on it, it appears that there is fluid in the lead that communicates some combination of temperature and/or pressure to the read-out dial.

Now, with that said, if they could put that stuff in there to begin with, there should be a way to replace it, sort of like Freon in an air conditioning unit.

The liquid used in the temperature gauge lead is Ether.

Yes they are repairable. But it takes some dollars to pay someone. Or a very brave person to solder the tube back together after they have it filled with Ether.

I would think the first thing you'd need to do is determine where the ether leaked out before refilling it.
