Belt Slippage
« on: January 22, 2018, 05:10:29 PM »
Hey guys.  My belt is still slipping and I still cannot figure out why.   Clutches are parallel to each other, offset is good.  I even removed all driven clutch shims and remove the bolt to allow the secondary to float and it still acts the same.   The stationary sheave on the drive converter gets real hot after 2 short pulls.

My hair is already falling out on its own, I don't need to pull any more out... lol  Help!

They need to run dry, is there any lube of any kind on the parts?

I have two questions/thoughts

1.  If the belt has been slipping is it already polished so badly that it won't bite?

2.  Is all of the rest of the driveline spinning freely?

If the problem began when you switched to a new belt, I suspect the issue is with the belt itself.  Can you try a different belt?

I scotch bright all sheave faces and clean the faces with brake clean.  New belts I clean with a bit of water and dawn dish soap.  I took both clutches apart too, cleaned them and I use a dry graphite lube on move able surfaces (ramps, rollers etc.

I put a P85 on it last night and found a spring/weight combo that works pretty well at the moment.  The stationary sheave is not burning up anymore but it is still noticeably warmer.  No more over revving so that's a bonus.

Driveline spins freely.  No binding or anything.  I put a 94 Polaris indy skid and track under it as well.  Yes, I spaced out the outside idlers on the driver shaft.
