No spark on 79 Invader
« on: February 02, 2018, 01:20:33 PM »
I have no spark on my invader. Changed the coil and the cdi box. Just wondering if anyone know if there is a manual on this site to test stator. It did this last year after sitting for the summer in storage. I brought it in the warm shop and it had spark the next day and run all season. Now this year after being outside it has done the same thing. Almost seems like a bad connection but I have pretty much went through everything with no luck.

I agree with Lloyd.  First try disconnecting the engine from the wiring harness.  If you  have no spark with the wiring harness disconnected then there is a short or other problem with the stator.

If she runs with the wiring harness disconnected then there is a problem somewhere in the wiring harness.

Checked pulsed and exciter coils acorrding to the wiring schematic I have. I had 128 ohms on the red to brown wire and 150 on the white to brown. From what I have read one of these is right and the other is reading high. 128 is norm for one wire and the other is supposed to be 22. So I’m thinking I need a stator.

So where does one get a stator for a 1978 Intruder, or a CDI box for that matter?

mfgsupply.com has the ignition coils.
Probably a member on here has a spare CDI, or they might be available on eBay.

The factory shop manual specifies 128 ohms +- 20% for the red/brown wire....as you got when you tested.
The other test should be the white/red wire to get 23 ohms +- 20%....not the white/brown as you stated.
Stator coils are available as I posted above.

Stupid question but I must ask, did your safety kill switch get bumped to on? Had this get me a couple times when out riding and sled wouldn't start.
