Suspension wheel bearings #6205-2RS
« on: May 20, 2018, 07:59:48 PM »
The last day of Braapfest this year my 81 Invader started to have the rumble of something loose.  Turned out to be a wheel bearing for one of the 6.375 diameter suspension idler wheels.  I fixed that but still it does not turn smooth like I would prefer so since all the bearings are the same age I should just replace them all.  It seems there are 2 grades ( 6205-2RS and 6205-2RS C3 ) of this size bearings but is the extra cost worth it??

Even the higher priced ones in your 2nd link are made in China..... :o
I don't know.....some of the Chinese bearings don't seem too bad...I've tried a few.
Usually an ad on a site will say "OEM replacement"....yep, cheap Chinese.
I might try them in the skid wheels, but any chaincase, driveshaft, or jackshaft bearing I'm finding an NTN bearing.
I think SkiDoo, Polaris, and Cat have used a lot of NTN's as original equipment usually.
SKF is another excellent brand. Yamaha has usually used excellent Koyo bearings.
SKF's site shows different 6205 bearings with one of  them rated to 18,000 RPM!
We certainly don't need one that good...
I can usually find one of those 3 manufacturer's common bearing, whether it is a 6205, or a different size, somewhere on the web for a pretty decent price.
Some Auto stores around me have some NTN brand bearings in stock..although they usually have cheaper ones, too.
I really don't know.....if you replace the bearings in all the wheels in a skid frame, that can add up to quite a few bucks for "brand name" bearings.
75 SnoJet Astro SS, 79 Kawasaki Invader 440 (two of them), 81 Scorpion Sidewinder, 82 Blizzard 9500, 83 Yamaha Vmax 540, 97 MXZ 670....and holding...for now.

This may or may not be related.  This year on the 79 Intruder that my nephew runs we had an occasional rumble.  Turned out to be one of the bottom center wheels contacting the drive nubs on the track.  Bearing was ok, but fit in the wheel was not good.  Popped in a different wheel and the rumble went away.
Intruders:  1978, 1979, 1981 Custom (Pink)
Invaders:   1980 440
Projects:    1981 Invader 440
