New Member - New to me 81 Kawasaki Intruder 440 - questions
« on: December 17, 2019, 09:37:56 AM »
Good day folks from the great white north!  I have found some great information already and look forward to learning more as I get more questions and inevitable stumbling blocks!

I recently have come to own a 1981 Kawasaki Intruder 440. I have some general questions as I want to begin restoring her to its former glory!

1) I am wondering what the closest match is for the dark blue cowl/hood paint. It is not the same regular Kawasaki Blue as many have described and have even recommended to inquire at the vintage sled paint supplier. As some will know this paint is darker. My paint is almost powdered off and I cant find a good color match to get something close. Any insight would be helpful.  I assume the "underbelly" pan area is simply black?
2) The windshield is cracked and I want to get a new one. I have seen various places that sell them.  My question, does the smaller profile "Invader" windshield interchange at all (with some modifications to the fastening clips)?  Are the cowls/hoods that similar?  They look similar size but will defer to the experts out there.

Thank you!  Again I look forward to learning more from the group of enthusiasts!

Belly pans came black (unpainted plastic).  I have had great success painting them with satin black Krylon Fusion paint for plastic when they are faded.

The Invader windshields interchange with all Intruders with the exception of the 78'.

Thanks!

About that darker blue hood/cowl cover...any ideas how to best match it? My color has turned to black powder and rubs off to the light blue primer!

Check out this web site.  I do not have any personal experience with this company.

https://www.vintagesledpaint.com/

With that said, maybe this is the time to repaint in your favorite color.  We have some hoods that are pretty beat up.  They have given us a chance to paint some fun colors.

I definitely can do that!  :) or I can definitely paint match as best I can to what I see in pictures, etc.  I just thought that maybe there's someone who's already invented the wheel!  LOL!

The vintage sled paint place has many colors available but not this darker Kawasaki color!

Thanks everyone!  Look forward to reading and learning more when I can and need to!

Most body shops or paint suppliers that paint vehicles can match any color they have the most selection available (PPG, Dumont, sikens, etc) to name a few some of the paints you can buy in a aerosol can. Some past race sleds that we did got appliance paint that held up great & that was aerosol cans.
