Honestly, they just followed me home...
« on: March 25, 2020, 04:57:13 PM »
On our last trip up north we ended up picking up two orphans.  Unwanted, alone, abandoned, destitute with no reason for hope.

Now I am a sympathetic sort and the result of their plaintive cries was to load them up on the  trailer for a ride home to the shop.

The JAG has a build date in 89 and if it will run should make a good camp sled.  The Phazer is a 86 and looks scary fast just sitting still.

Checking the JAG it had good compression so that is where we started.  Loaded with pine needles and mouse nests, the carb was frozen and the nest in the fan housing would keep the engine from turning over.  After cleaning everyting up, it measured 150 psi on both cylinders and with a shot of ether she popped right off.  A little more work and she is now running on her own.  Here is the link to the amateur video of her maiden voyage:  https://youtu.be/NUWZTo-_Tf0
I will add more about the Phazer in a bit.  Time for dinner.

The Phazer is a whole different story.  In spite of the fact that it looks fast just sitting still, the engine was locked up.

After removing a few more mouse nests, it remained locked up.  And, after removing the engine and dumping out the water, it remained locked up.  So there we have a decent chassis without a decent engine.

So, here is  a question for the table -

Does anyone have any experience with swapping the Yamaha suspension into an Invader?
