Recoil blues

Hi all!
Mid summer and still working on ol blue lol

I am needing some help on recoil
I have an 81 drifter 340

Recoil has been giving me trouble for years.
It comes apart on me.
I put new pawl kit. Same thing
I tried to buy a new one but they sent wrong size.
It’s smaller cup and reel than others
Part numbers are kind of confusing and it’s hard to cross reference for me

I’ve put at least 20 hours of my life taking it on and off.
Usually works for about 5-10 pulls then I need to take it apart again.

Seems the reel is bent and now I have to bend it back into shap and then after a few pulls it bends out of shape again .

Does anyone know which part numbers cross ref to the arctic cat version

Seems to be lots out there.
Or does anyone have one for sale?

having issues posting at the moment
 but the 3 peices that hold the pawls in place are bending and shifting under load

this may be the part number for the recoil reel I need
59101-506

but its not coming up under that number anywhere, 
needs a cross ref
Found one on ebay under
3000-917
but not sure if its the same size

I think there are arctic cat recoils that will work... maybe spirit?

I have a couple of those sleds,  sometime in the next couple days I will give them a look.  The 81 Drifter is a 1 year motor but I'm not sure about the recoil??

Here are the diagram and parts list for the 81 Drifter.  You can check to see that all the parts are there.

Don’t have 17 or 18
But in my book those are only required for the 440 and I have the 340
It gets quite confusing when I start reading and comparing parts books and part number searches.
I do know that my cup and reel are smaller than most and I believe it’s the same recoil as the spirit recoils from arctic cat.
And they probably used the larger cup and reel on the 440

Maybe I should just get a new cup and recoil that match. ?

I have both sleds and it seems that both should be the same???

well if you look closely at the page i uploaded from the manual  theres ** beside the slide plate large and small and it says 440 only.
Maybe im missinterpereting?
I ordered a new reel for a cat spirit recoil and a slide plate,  hopefully they fit!
if not ill order a new recoil and matching cup from something more modern and try and make it work.

You are correct,  I wonder what is the reason for that difference??

They look the same from the outside, at least mine do.
