Glove box and tool box accessories - what to carry?
« on: January 16, 2013, 07:04:01 PM »
Aside from a few of the anticipated wise cracks, I am curious about what everyone thinks that every sled should carry in the glove box or the under hood tool box like plugs and bulbs and things of that nature.

My Uncle told me to carry everything that you'll need, and nothing that you won't need.  Here is an example of what we usually have on board.  Registration, Insurance card, spare plugs, spare belt, spare light bulbs, tool kit, pull rope, tow strap, bottle of water, knife, vise grips, spare mittens (NOT GLOVES), spare wool socks, matches/lighter, peanuts and vienna sausages. (I personally will pass on the vienna sausages, extremely nasty when cold.) I substitute with some Beef Jerky.

You have a wise uncle.  What is in the tool kit?

Just took an inventory of the Intruder.
Here's what I have.........
Mono spring wrench(s), spark plug wrench(s), 8mm wrench, 10mm wrench, 12mm wrench, 13mm wrench, 14mm wrench, 17mm, wrench, 22mm wrench, 24mm wrench, regular screw driver, phillips screwdriver, crescent wrench, adjustable jaw pliers, needle nose pliers, about 2 feet of 12 guage wire, electrical tape, 2 feet of fuel hose, fuel filter, and fuel hose clamps.

Preparation is everything!

I even found a spare fan belt in the storage box, but would probably NOT want to replace it in the field.

While I don't carry it in my tool box, I never go sledding without my cell phone.  And if my phone didn't have built in GPS, I would carry a hand held GPS too.

OK.   I will admit that it is a much longer list than I had originally contemplated, and many more items than we routinely carry.  None the less this has been an enlightening exercise.  Thank you for your input.  This is what I am now seeing:

spark plugs
spark plug wrench
emergency start rope
head lamp bulb
tail lamp bulb
flash light
drive belt
phillips No. 2 screwdriver
No. 2 screwdriver
adjustable wrench
8mm wrench
10mm wrench
12mm wrench
13mm wrench
9/16 wrench
6mm allen wrench
3/16 allen wrench
vice grips
fuel hose
fuel hose clamps
fuel filter
tow strap
knife
peanuts
slim jims
facial quality tissue
cell phone
Suspension mount bolt
wire
electrical tape
mittens
socks
registration & insurance card (what is that ;-))
carb tool kit
carb jets
PTO guard clip
matches/lighter
shock adjuster wrench

At some point there may not be enough  storage on the sled for all of these items.  Did we miss anything important?
