Interceptor Radar @ 1000 ft on Sat.
« on: February 06, 2014, 05:42:02 PM »
Ok...   gonna try for 1000ft on radar...  two Interceptors (different set ups).  Sat. is the big day!  Hopefully I can keep these puppies "straight"...  not running any carbide up front.  Last time I ran 660 I was hanging all over the sled(s) trying to stay between the cones.  I am also bringing a 75' Merc 440 S/T F/A.  I am going to enter this one on the "snow track" for 1000 ft.  This should run good, but no studs so will have to see how brave I am on Sat.  I 'd like to live to see my wife and kids...  will let you know what happens!

Hi Tory,

If she stays off the ground for awhile you won't need the carbides.....but 1000 feet is a long stretch, why not have them ? Certainly not for the weight...?

Anyhow, we'll wish you a fast run.....hopefully near 100 mph or maybe past that... who knows...

Take Care !

I've got two kids (ages 2 and 4). I thought it would be fun for them to see santa riding a snowmobile.  We barely had any snow last Christmas so I thought they'd get a laugh.  Their jaws dropped when they saw the pics/video and asked me if it was O.K. for the big man to ride my snowmobiles...  Sorry, no Santa at the radar runs.  If I do this again I will be taking donations!

Just got back from the radar runs.  Very impressive turnout!  I's say 150 sleds entered total?  It was a beautiful sunny day...  very light wind and low 20's.  The track was well taken care of.  I had a few minor issues...  broken clutch spring on the Sno Twister and a broken throttle cable on one of the Interceptors.  I made a few decent passes with the bone stock Interceptor.  Traction was still an issue, but better than at the Rangely radar runs a few weeks ago.  I'd say I got "hooked up" aprox. 50 ft. out.  Had to nail the throttle, let off and hit it again.   So, for all you Interceptors guys out there...  84.5 mph (completely stock).  I'd be willing to bet high 80's with some better "bite".  Came home with a trophy in vintage!  The old Interceptor proved it was no slouch compared to the newer 500's and 600's.  Had a lot of fun.  Pictures and utube video soon.  I'll let you know when their up.

Wow... well done Tory..!! 84.5 with a stock 550...that's real good... :-)

I was hoping you'd run the modified one and get close to 100mph....maybe next time..

Can't wait to see  the video...

Take care..

Top speed of the day for the supermod class was 148.3 mph... this thing was nuts!  Big turbo(s), etc.  You should have seen the holeshot...  looked like a shotgun shell coming out of a barrel.  I have a video of that one too.  Better watch the Interceptor video "first" or you might be disappointed!  There was "a lot" of interest in the Kawasakis.  Comments like...  "that was one of the sleds to beat back in the day" and "I remember when those first came out...  why did they stop making them" also had a "drunk" local drooling over one rambling on...  I have no clue what he was saying, I just smiled and nodded.  The new(er) sleds are nice, but vintage brings back good ole' memories.

Congratulations Tory! Way to go! I didn't have the same good fortune Sunday. I was pulling to the outside after turn 3 to get out of the way of other people practicing on the track. Couldn't keep the skis on the ground when accelerating hard. My right ski caught on something and I fell off. As I was sliding on my back I watched the Interceptor roll over the berm.

But DAMN!! that f*@& could flat out pull. It took me awhile to tune the 38mm VM carbs but these Interceptors are impressive. I've built very modded SRX racers and the Interceptor pulls a holeshot like the SRX.

It wasn't nearly as impressive as Sprockets rollover but I was out before the races started. Biggest damage was it bent the steering post bracket forward in the middle about an inch where the post is attached.

...  Sorry about the mishap.  You know,  there is something good to be said on your behalf...  you are running the sled like it was designed.  Some guys would rather look at the sled sitting in the garage.  Looks good in the garage, but better on the track.  Better luck next time.
