Lift or not ?
« on: June 22, 2014, 07:25:18 PM »
#000073 Interceptor will be back on the snow again. With new camoplast 9796 track & 1983 Interceptor suspension. And yes with 0 miles speedo. This is a complete snow up restore. Question is lift or not? I have factory lift brackets that will raise it 2 inches. What is my gain or loss? Or would it be just cool? No pic"s at this time.

Good for you!   I suspect you will lose some top end (MPH) by lifting.  Probably not much, but this is one of a few reasons why the newer sleds aren't as fast as they could be...  in conjunction with their tall track lug profiles.  Also, you are changing the geometry of the sled so it may not handle quite as well.  Just like with most everything...  if you change one thing you may end up changing other settings.  You might try experimenting with your ski spring settings (three hole locations) for more/less ski pressure on the snow.  Love to see some pics!  Good luck!

I thought the ride on our 550 was quite nice.  And while we lift all of the Intruders and Invaders, without the benefit of actually lifting an Interceptor I don't think that it is necessary.
Intruders:  1978, 1979, 1981 Custom (Pink)
Invaders:   1980 440
Projects:    1981 Invader 440

Putting lift brackets on does nothing for ride quality.  The amount of travel stays the same.  The only benefit I can see is better deep snow traction.  It won't get hung up on the running boards as easily.  I'd leave them off and stay out of the deep stuff.

I agree, unless I was in deep snow a lot I would leave it stock.

I believe it will stay stock. The brackets will hang on wall for other project. 572 rides nice in stock position also. Great points , never thought of the speed one. Track and suspension will be interesting.

If we get as much snow as we've had rain this summer...  there won't be a problem with that.  You might end up having to take out a small loan to pay for all the gas you burn!  Rumor has it we will be getting snow in Oct this year -
