Never seen a "real nice" Invader sell for $1500.  Seen a couple for that asking price, but they are still for sale.  Most I ever spent on an all original 78' (beautiful one owner sled) was $1200.  Ironically, the sled was on ebay and it didn't hit the seller's reserve.  I called him after the auction ended and offered his reserve. ;)  Just bought a low mileage (nice) 79' 340 Invader for $750.  Again, it BARELY hit reserve and only sold because I bid!  Nice 81' Invader paid $1100 out of Canada...  nice 80' 4/6 in WI for $1500...   let's see...   I overpaid for a nice, original, low mile 82' LTD at $1700.  Sold a "very nice" 81' LTD a few years ago for $850 (MINT SEAT)...  yada, yada...  just sayin!

A few years  back a guy in New York State had a 1980 4/6 Kawasaki Invader that he fully restored  with many NOS parts and he was asking $1750. If the 1981 LTD had only maybe 200 orig. miles.  $2000 at the most. This price is too high.

Doug:  I saw that sled up close and personal - a masterpiece if there was one - not a spot of grease or oxidation when he got done with that sled.  I could have bought it for $1,200.  It ended up going to California of all places!
Intruders:  1978, 1979, 1981 Custom (Pink)
Invaders:   1980 440

And an 80 4/6 is not as nice or rare as an 81 or 82.

If all Kawasaki snowmobiles are to you is a sled, then you dont appreciate the history. These are not just fancy utility sleds. They were luxury muscle snowmobiles. They did 90~mph and havent had anything made in the last 35 years. Its a great thing you all got such good deals on fancy utilty sleds. Thats not what im selling. Im selling a piece of history. Kind of funny i even give a crap considering these are older than me.

If you want to be successful, hang around with successful people. If you dont like the bad economy, then move to the good economy. People in CT work hard and play hard and make good money. We dont trip over dollars to pick up pennys. im not Codfish from the dickerin down east. Im an enthusiast and ive done my homework and read more than prices and pictures.

Sounds like you need a vacation!  You're not the only one on here that knows a thing or two about a thing or two.

Miles doesnt mean anything. it can have 10 miles and be rotten and banged up. The more miles means the more reliable it was and the more it got driven, which is good. For 35 years this machine was treated like a member of the family. 1980 doesnt seem that long ago but when you look at snowmobiles it seems ancient. Technology didnt really happen till the late 80's. If there are 1000 pieces(nuts, bolts, etc) that make up a snowmobile and you sold each piece for $5...Do i need to do the math for you? Theres more than 1000 and theyre worth more than $5 a piece.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. Get fired up! Enjoy life while you have it.

Kind of boils down to what an individual wants and how much they perceive it is worth. Personally I prefer the 1980 4/6 with the individual heads but still the 4 plug motor. it had the vari-ride suspension, the 2 up seat, wider skis, and cooling system of the 82 sled but the motor with the Mikuni carbs is easier to find parts for and the carbs worked better for me.

I like the old school look of the motors  compared to the single head across both cylinders. Even with the uneven cooling this caused, it is a 'looks thing' not a functional thing.
I also enjoy the restoration part, tracking down the part that is missing, correcting others mistakes, etc combined with the first time it comes to life and the first time down the trail! nothing can compare.

But that is just me. to each his own

Kawasaki sleds are not just a sled to me or other members on this site, if that is what you think then you are very wrong. I was in the military at the age of 19 and I grew up with these sleds. When I saw my 1978 340 Invader for the first time I knew the sled was ahead of it's time. I know these sleds inside and out. I have a great appreciation for them and I do know what the real value is for them, but like what some people say it is only worth what some one is willing to pay for it. So if someone gives you $3000 for it good for you and I'd be happy for you to. Vintage sledding is a passion for all of us, lets not forget this. :) :) :)
