Ratcheting/skipping track not sure why??
« on: January 05, 2014, 04:18:44 PM »
I was out on a ride in the fresh powder today. Sled runs great, and is very fast! I got into a large field where I was going full throttle on and off, traction is hard to come by when I hammer the throttle. The sled was a little sideways...and the track was spinning with not much traction. Then it happened.....the track was skipping or ratcheting on the drive cogs. This would only happen when I gave it full throttle.

I got home, and checked the track out. The track was very loose. I tightened it up, and ensured it was aligned. The cogs are looking good without wear. I had the chain case apart before this happened a couple of weeks ago to clean it up and change the fluid.

However, when I took the sled out for a test run after tightening the track, it still ratcheted.

I need some help and advice on what to look for. If you want pictures of anything let me know.

Thanks!

Can you take a photo of your drive cogs engaging the track?

Here is a video of the track, upon inspection, it is broken.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_mUQPfU1w0&feature=youtube_gdata_player

I have found that the suspension is broken in a couple of spots.  Out it comes.

It is always good to keep a spare suspension in stock for just such an emergency.

Broken mounting bracket will cause all sorts of problems including ratcheting track.

You might have the same problem as me, it skips in the chain case, though you think it's the lug
Where does the white go when the snow melts :-))

If it skips in the chain case you have a chain that is to long?  I have had the track skip but it was due to out of adjustment.
